Alejandro Fernandez of Pesquera de Duero initiated the replanting of Spains Ribera del Duero region in the 1970s where his red wines made from Tempranillo grapes are internationally famous. Condado de Haza is a southfacing slope along one kilometre of the Duero River where planting began in 1989. Superior exposure and soils artisanal winemaking and fifteen months in oak yield a noble wine of which Alejandro is justifiably proud.

Aged in American oak barrels for 18 months with a further 6 months in bottle the wine has a nose of redcurrant and rose petals and the mouthfeel is full flavoursome and powerful with black fruit notes predominant. Decant well before drinking and serve at 16 C .

James Suckling recently awarded the Condado de Haza a very credible score of 93 points stating, "A dense and layered red with meat, chocolate, dried berry and walnut aromas and flavours. This has a full body and velvety tannins. A little old school but what you expect from this producer."
