Peter Lehmann Black Queen Sparkling Shiraz – The Black Queen was named in honour of the most hauntingly famous Black Queen of all, The Queen of Sheba, who describes herself in the book of Solomon "I am black, (and) comely." There can be no better description of this wine.
Peter Lehmann's sparkling wines explore another dimension to the fruit from Barossa's valley floor and the cool heights of Eden Valley. What began as an experimental application of methode traditionnelle with old vine Barossa Shiraz in the early 1980s has expanded to become a family of limited release individual wines that are truly worth celebrating.
Sparkling Shiraz is a unique Australian wine style, and former Chief Winemaker Andrew Wigan was inspired to make a great sparkling wine from Barossa Shiraz in the 1980s. Often referred to as the "Jewel in our Crown," our Black Queen Sparkling Shiraz is a unique and indulgent wine crafted from premium vineyards in South Australia's Barossa region. This regal sparkling wine boasts bold flavours and a fine, persistent and elegant bead.
Sourced from a single vineyard of Survivor vine Shiraz (planted 1928), grown by the Schmidt family in Light Pass
Peter Lehmann Black Queen Sparkling Shiraz – The "jewel in the crown," this unique and indulgent Sparkling red wine boasts naturally low tannins and rich in juicy blue fruit flavours, balanced by spice and a savoury finish.
This Sparkling Shiraz displays a red colour with a purple centre and fine persistent bead. The bouquet features stewed plums, black cherry and mocha with exotic spices and dark chocolate on the palate, with a long, savoury finish.
Fermented on skins for 7 to 10 days, pressed, clarified and matured for 12 months in older French oak hogsheads. The base wine was then bottle fermented and aged on its yeast lees for two years.
