The history of the estate dates back to 1890, when five Basque and Rioja-based vine growers created "Sociedad Vinicola De La Rioja Alta" in the Haro Station District. This was the beginning of a fascinating business venture where the dream of the founders was to craft and age high quality wines. In 1891, the company changed its name to "La Rioja Alta." La Rioja Alta is widely recognised to be one of the finest wineries in the Rioja region. The estate has a history dating back over 100 years with the accumulated experience and knowledge being passed down through the generations and translated into the wines of the estate. The heartlands of La Rioja Alta are in the finest sites of the Rioja Alta region, with a further four wineries located in Spain's most renown DOs. The Haro Estate of La Rioja Alta produces three Reservas and two Gran Reservas, as well as the unique Marques de Haro wine that is the passion of the winemaker, Julio Saenz. The company still has enormous respect for the history and the original philosophy, which is still evident in how the wine is made today. Aster was created with wisdom, enthusiasm and great patience.
Black cherry red, intense, high robe, with dark pink tones on the edge of the glass. Intense aroma, ripe berries first to the bouquet and, after gently moving the glass, fine roasted toffee and caramel hints combine with spicier tones. Powerful and well-balanced to the palate, with pleasant mineral content, and well marked sweet tannins thanks to our work with the lees, making the wine incredibly silky.
Featured in our March 2026 La Rioja Alta tasting.
